New CILEx President is Consula's Martin Callan
Consula is proud to announce that Martin Callan has been elected the new President of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives for 2016/17.
Martin was inaugurated as the 53rd President of CILEx on 21 July 2016 in London (www.cilex.org.uk) Martin was first elected to Council in 2004/5 representing Wales and was an active member of the South Wales Branch. In 2008 Martin was re-elected to Council to represent the London region. Martin has also been heavily involved in CILEx London where he iis currently Treasurer. Martin is a founding trustee and treasurer of the Lord Edmund-Davies Legal Education Trust (www.ledlet.org.uk) and involved with the Association of London Welsh Lawyers. Martin has a strong focus on access to the profession and equality and diversity. Martin read law at Cardiff Law School where he graduated in 1996. He went on to study the post-graduate diploma in legal practice and the Fellowship diploma/higher diploma in legal practice at CILEx Law School. Martin is an experienced senior professional lawyer with over 20 years’ experience in the profession and more than 11 years qualified. Martin practices contentious and non-contentious matters as well as providing strategic business planning and operational support. Martin has worked at every level within private practice firms and understands the pressures staff at different levels have. Martin also understands the pressures faced by student members of CILEx, especially those undertaking distance learning through CLS. Martin currently services a number of corporate clients as the in-house lawyer handling a range of litigation, regulatory and strategic issues and provides support to lawyers looking to set up new law firms. Martin has a very strong ethos of professionalism and ethics and helps to deliver compliance across a range of regulatory regimes to his corporate clients. On his forthcoming Presidency, Martin said: "I am looking forward to representing CILEx and our members and I am particularly looking forward to meeting members in our branches up and down the country. CILEx is our membership. Our branch network, which is made up of volunteers, is strong and growing and I will continue to support every branch."
